Bridgwater is a historic market town on the River Parrett, sitting on the edge of the Somerset Levels and close to the Quantock Hills and Mendip Hills. The town has a long trading and industrial heritage, having grown around its river, markets and port. Today, Bridgwater is one of Somerset’s larger towns and an important centre for business, shopping, services and community life. It is also famous for its spectacular annual carnival, one of the largest illuminated carnivals in Europe.
